Re: No Day But Today!
Oh, I remember the JCS album really well, can even see it in my mind's eye. I never owned it, but we teens in the Bible belt treated it like contraband. Everybody listened to it, got together in listening parties to listen. Our elders were uneasy about it. They didn't outright condemn it, but they weren't sure about it, either. I was a little older when Evita came out, wasn't really aware of it. And, since it was about a political figure rather than Jesus, it didn't cause the same stir in my neck of the woods.
Way back when, I had been under the impression that people were loathe to stage JCS because of its religios subject matter. But when I learned that Evita premiered in the same way, I thought it must have just been about money. ALW wasn't always a bankable star. He was just a guy writing and hoping to get produced someday, I guess. Maybe today he'd have gone on YouTube.

Re: No Day But Today!
I was told in no uncertain terms that we were NOT to listen to JCS. And I wasn’t much of a rebel, nor a rocker, so I didn’t. I think we discussed in Sunday School that it was horrid because Jesus wasn’t resurrected.
Funny, because in the version C did in NJ, he most certainly was!

I think I'm misremembering about Elton John, but I thought he was Herod. Maybe it was just a music video. The movie credits say Josh Mostel.

Srtfan, there was a wildly popular local production of JCS here a few years ago, and they also showed the resurrected Jesus. I do think that was the most common criticism years ago, and I think many productions handle it that way.

I am finally excited again. I don't care if it's Broadway, off-Broadway or off-off-Broadway, I just want him back on stage where he belongs! Am so happy for him, don't care if it's a short run, he'll love it. And so do I!

This sounds like a fascinating role. I’m so looking forward to it.
I saw Hedwig in that theater many years ago. Looking forward to feeling all squooshy returning to the space again.
